The following pages are to help people understand how pups/dogs develop. I have illustrated this with photos of Toy Shelties. Please note that altered dogs get larger coats at a younger age. Also dogs coats continue to grow throughout the dogs lifetime.  For this reason a dog will have more coat when it is eight years than when it is two years.  Pictured below is Sprightly Scarborough Fair CGC. She is unaltered and therefore bears less coat.
